Off-Campus Study
Extend Your F&M Experience Beyond Borders
Off-campus study is an integral component of an F&M liberal arts education. Historically, 45-50% of F&M students engage in an off-campus experience, whether it be a semester-long program or summer internship or research project. These experiences aren鈥檛 simply time away from campus; they鈥檙e seamlessly connected with your entire academic journey.

A Semester in Paris: 鈥楴ight at the Museum鈥 Could Never Compare
Ruth Axford 鈥25 never imagined that she would walk to the Arc de Triomphe to take
the metro, intern in the same building complex as the Louvre, or go to the Bastille
area for class. But she did all of that and more when she spent a semester studying
abroad in Paris. Axford interned at the Mus茅e des Arts D茅coratifs, a museum dedicated
to the exhibition and preservation of the decorative arts. The French and history
double major worked on an exhibit for Dutch fashion designer Iris van Herpen. 鈥淕oing
through the finished product on opening night with my colleagues, seeing it all come
to life without Tyvek commercial wrap on the floor was crazy,鈥 Axford said. 鈥淲hen
we came out, the credits on the wall said all our names, including 鈥榓vec la collaboration
de Ruth Axford.鈥 I may have happily cried walking home along the Champs Elys茅es, amazed
at everything I accomplished in only four months.鈥
